[Interview] Julie Kagawa Author of The Iron Fey Series

As we celebrate the cover reveal of The Iron Knight the 4th Installment of The Iron Fey Series which will be released October 25th, 2011

Julie Kagawa was generous enough to allow us to have an Interview!
What book(s) influenced you on writing The Iron Fey series?
While writing the Iron King, I deliberately avoided reading any books that were fey related; I didn’t want to unconsciously copy them.  But I will say that fantasy books like Lord of the Rings and The Sword of Shannara did shape my early teenage years, and made me want to write like them.

Can you do spoilers for The Iron Knight? Pretty please. If not then it’s ok. At least give me a Puck teaser instead for Summer's Crossing? :D
Lol, my editor would kill me if I gave away anything about the Iron Knight.  How about a Summer’s Crossing snippet instead?

"Once upon a time, I had two close friends.  Shocking, I know, given my natural charm, but there are those who just don’t appreciate my brilliance.  We weren’t supposed to be friends, the three of us, or even friendly with each other.  I was part of the Seelie Court, and they…weren’t.  But I’d never been one for following the rules, and who knew Queen Mab’s youngest son could be such a rebel as well?  And Ariella… I’d known Ash a long time before Ariella came into the picture, but I never begrudged her presence.  She was the buffer between us; the one who could calm Ash when he slipped too far toward his ruthless Unseelie nature, or advised caution when one of my plans seemed a little…impulsive.  Once upon a time, we were inseparable.

Once upon a time, I did something stupid.  And lost them both in the process."
How do you plan to end the series? Is The Iron Knight the last book?
That, unfortunately, is spoiler talk, which I’ve been threatened under punishment of…something nasty…not to reveal.  ;)  As for Knight being the last book, I might return to the world of the Iron Fey sometime in the future.  As of now, however, I have a new series I’m working on.
What are your future plans after writing The Iron Fey Series?
How wonderful of you to ask! :D Right now I’m working on a new YA series set in a post-apocalyptic world. With vampires.
What is the best thing that has happened to you since becoming a published author?
Well, twice now, a perfect stranger has come up to me and said “OMG, you’re Julie Kagawa! I love your books!” We authors live for those moments.
Personally, who's your most favorite character in the book? How about the least favorite?
My favorite would have to be Ash, because I love dark, broody bad boys who can wield pointy objects. I don’t really think I have a least favorite. I love all my characters, in one way or another.

Can you list down at least 5 Random Facts about You, your characters or anything about writing the book?
  • I grew up on a farm. With dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, ducks, chickens, geese, pigs, and a horse.
  • That farm was only one acre.
  • Ash is partly based on several anime and video game characters. Squall Leonhart and Heero Yuy being the two most prominent. (Yes, I am a geek.)
  • My favorite food is sushi.
  • I was a dog trainer before I became a full-time writer.

[Thoughts & Rants] JACE WAYLAND IS CASTED!

YES ITS OFFICIAL!
WE HAVE A JACE WAYLAND!

After all the BUZZ and talk of who will play as Jace Wayland in the movie adaptation of a popular book of Cassandra Clare, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, It's OFFICIAL. Jamie Bower is Jace. It's been a long wait and now they just announced who will play the most coveted role of Jace Wayland.

My Reaction?

Ohh my! I can’t believe this news as of this very moment! Jace Wayland is CASTED in the persona of Jamie Bower, so far I really haven’t watch any of his works but all I can say is that if the producers thinks that he fits the role of Jace Wayland I’m so up for it! I believe he has the skills and the angst to pull up the role of Jace! I’m excited for the movie and looking forward for the movie to get rolling!

Disappointed for Alex Pettyfer not being Jace Wayland? well I would definitely say YES but then there’s nothing I can really do about it, the fact that the producers thinks that Jamie is a good Jace I’m totally freaking about it! for Alex passing the role of Jace Wayland? fuck him haha no joke I love Alex so much! sorry for the profanity there but thats my initial reaction he just passed the opportunity of playing this awesome character. he chooses another project over TMI well too bad people are actually rooting for him to play the role.

Cassie Clare likes Jamie Bower as Jace? Yes she likes Jamie as Jace and I think that once an author acknowledges an actor that would play the character that she wrote, it's like a sign for the fans to stop the hate messages LOL. I mean HELLO fans, I know you have your own actor you're rooting for the character of Jace but then even the author have no say for who will play as her character. So I suggest to stop all the hate messages/tweets and just embrace who Jace is!

HERE ARE SOME OF CASSANDRA'S TWEETS ABOUT JAMIE

NOW WHO'S EXCITED FOR THE CITY OF BONES MOVIE? I KNOW I AM!
JAMIE WOULD BE REALLY GREAT WITH LILY COLLINS!

Waiting on Wednesday #1 by Era Penera

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Archangel's Blade

by Nalini Singh
Expected publication: September 6, 2011 by Berkley

Description from Goodreads:

The severed head marked by a distinctive tattoo on its cheek should have been a Guild case, but dark instincts honed over hundreds of years of life compel the vampire Dmitri to take control. There is something twisted about this death, something that whispers of centuries long past…but Dmitri’s need to discover the truth is nothing to the vicious strength of his response to the hunter assigned to decipher the tattoo.

Savaged in a brutal attack that almost killed her, Honor is nowhere near ready to come face to face with the seductive vampire who is an archangel’s right hand, and who wears his cruelty as boldly as his lethal sensuality…the same vampire who has been her secret obsession since the day she was old enough to understand the inexplicable, violent emotions he aroused in her.

As desire turns into a dangerous compulsion that might destroy them both, it becomes clear the past will not stay buried. Something is hunting…and it will not stop until it brings a blood-soaked nightmare to life once more…

Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh

(Guild Hunter Series, #3)

My Teaser:

“You asked me once what you should call me."

Elena scowled. “I think you said something like ‘master,’ but I’ve decided I had to be hearing things.”

“What would you like to call me?”

That made her pause. "Husband" was too human, "partner" factually wrong for a being as powerful as an archangel, "mate"... perhaps. But none of it was quite right. "Mine," she said at last.

Talking about cheesiness! I know that could be lengthy enough as a teaser but I just had to add this one more. Illium is just too smexy!

Illium, with his wings of silver-kissed blue and a face designed to seduce both males and females, not to mention his ability to do most impossible acrobatics in the air, would provide a worthy diversion. The fact that he'd decided to ditch his clothing was just icing on the cake.

What I Finished

[REVIEW TO COME]

What I'm Reading

Synopsis

A zombie who yearns for a better life ends up falling in love—with a human—in this astonishingly original debut novel.

R is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. He doesn’t enjoy killing people; he enjoys riding escalators and listening to Frank Sinatra. He is a little different from his fellow Dead.

Not just another zombie novel, Warm Bodies is funny, scary, and deeply moving.

Kindle Edition
Published April 12th 2011

Kelsee Lewis has a new school, a prima donna best friend, and one week to write a hit play. Throw in a self-obsessed mom and an absent executive dad, and it’s no wonder she has panic attacks—complete with time-warp special effects. When Kelsee meets comic book maven Quinn, she realizes the attacks give her the ability to rewind time.

Replaying life seems like the best way to erase mistakes. But will second chances leave Kelsee flailing in the orchestra pit alone?

-Goodreads

My thoughts?

First I want to say that this books is an original, of all the books I've read this one really stands out story wise and character wise. I like the characters as well as the story telling. Reading this book is really fun it is enjoyable through out the whole read. I somehow found myself giggling with some of the lines. Another thing I also like is the very unique chapter titles.

Replay is a story of Kelsee Lewis who has a new school, a prima donna best friend, and one week to write a hit play. Then she met Quinn a comic lover, after that she found out that she has a super natural power to turn back time.

What if you could rewind time? this line made me read this book. I honestly don't know what to do if I have the powers to rewind time? Will I use it for my own benefit or for benefit of others?

All in all this has been a great read but it's not really my taste in books, for me it is Original but it somehow lacks the things I really look for a book.

My thoughts?

Now I already loved the first book, the Angels’ Blood, so I’m not even surprised that I felt exactly the same for this one. This is as stunning as the first book, perhaps even more. It has bewitched me in a serious way.

Nalini Singh has yet again showed us the darkly beautiful world of the angels and vampires in her second installation of the Guild Hunter series, the Archangel’s Kiss. This book followed the awakening of Elena, the Guild Hunter, from a year long coma to find out that she now belongs to the dangerous but dazzling Archangel of New York, Raphael.

And then here comes Raphael’s Seven – the beautiful and dangerous group of three vampires and four angels who vowed to protect their Sire even if it would cost them their own lives. They have different characters and I find them really intriguing. And yes, I felt the urge to mention them in my review because I felt like these beautiful men were one of the reasons for my fascination of this book. Seriously, some of them have histories that are itching in my mind that I couldn’t wait to be unraveled.

The story itself was captivating. I’ve always liked mystery and action and this book has given me exactly what I wanted. And yes, this is also seriously told in an explicit way. But I bet many would like it for that matter. The relationship of Elena and Raphael has been really entertaining, I guess. And anyway, Raphael could do or own anything he wants to, he’s that powerful. Was that a little shady? You can read it and it wouldn’t be that shady anymore.

The world wherein the Guild Hunter series have been revolving really fascinates me even until the second book. I should be able to already get the hang of it and yet, I’m still enchanted to the deadly world of the angels and vampires and how they interact with the humans.

And somehow, I get this feeling like the Archangels are of some sort of like the Greek gods or something. They rule their own respective territories and they try so hard to somehow, dangerous and cruel as they already are, minimize their viciousness to avoid abhorrence from their subjects. This book gives me a feeling like it’s in some kind of a mythological world somewhere and is not really in this dimension but yet it has the territories’ names that are actually in use in our own good old home planet right now.

Now I can’t wait to read the third book of the series, the Archangel’s Consort. I have no doubt how amazing it’s going to be. So I’m really looking forward to it. There are still mysteries yet to be discovered so I will not miss it for sure. And even having not finished the whole series yet, I can say that these books are ones of my favorites in the paranormal world.
