[Blog Tour] Bleeder by LK Rigel + Contest

[Bleeders are consecrated during the Rites of May. After that, they can contract with the Concord Cities. This scene is Mal’s ceremony.]

“The Triune Contract is sacred.”
Mal’s voice cracked as she began the traditional chant. She was again on the stage. The only light in the auditorium came from fat beeswax candles on five pedestals at the forward edge of the stage.
Despite years training for this moment, she was nervous as she approached her pedestal. It held a ceramic plate of incense, the beeswax candle, and a brass bowl. A wooden staff made of polished ash leaned against the pedestal.
She circled her hands over the candle to breathe in its delicate fragrance then lit the incense in the candle flame. The smoke from both candles and incense would carry their prayers to the gods. She and the others struck their brass bowls five times.
She unwound her obi and let it fall to the floor, then took the staff and stepped back from the pedestal. A sister standing behind her kicked the obi aside. Mal chanted:
“My curse is my blessing.
My service is my deliverance.”
Witnesses seated in the theater joined in on the next line:
“The Triune Contract is sacred.”
Mal glanced sideways at Nin then looked at the floor to keep from laughing. They were unable to see the witnesses, but Nin had noticed it too – the low rumble of male voices among them. It sounded good.
The next step, the sister behind her took the crown from her head and dropped it onto the sash on the floor. The sisters and the witnesses, chanted:
“Daughter of heaven, bearer of the world
You are the fig tree the gods did not curse
Conduit and chalice, how glad are your lovers
You open the gate forged by mankind’s error”
The third step, the sister took away her lovely pearl choker and draped it over the crown. Mal chanted:
“Where is my beloved? I wait in the meadow
I am waiting in the meadow, untouched by human error
Where is my beloved? He is beautiful in my eyes
He is like the rainfall, like the great bull of heaven”
The fourth step, the sister took the staff of ash and tossed it to the floor near the crown and pearls. Mal chanted:
“I lie among the roses, in a bed of lovely petals
I lie in heat for love, my furrow ready for love’s seed”
The fifth step, the sister took her gold bracelet. Mal knew she’d get it back later; but she’d worn it for so long that it felt wrong to let it go.
“I am the rose of heaven, and I am the rose of desire
I am the red rose, and the white rose
I am desire, I am satisfaction”
The sixth step, she kicked out of her slippers, which the sister took away.
“I will bear the fruit of the world
I am the tree of life uncursed
I am the furrow that will be sown
By my lover’s worthy plow”
The seventh step, she dropped her robe, her sole remaining garment, to expose her naked body and the circle of red roses on her arm. The witnesses burst into applause. The sisters spoke in unison.
“My sister, I have taken your ego so that you may serve unhindered.”
The five dropped to their knees.
“Thank you, my sister, for your service to me this day.”
They crawled across the stage to the princes who would help complete the ritual. Mal laid her hands on a prince’s bare feet while the witnesses chanted:
“The Triune Contract is sacred”
She rose to her knees and put her hands on his thighs. He was as naked as she was, and quite ready for her.
“Your curse is your blessing”
He knelt down and she placed her hands on his chest. This was no effeminate, sterile proof. It was a real man from the real world, well-fed and well-trained, with smooth skin over powerful muscles.
It was Edmund.
“Your service is your deliverance”
He put his hands on her breasts.
“The Triune Contract is sacred”
She put her hands on his shoulders, and they kissed. He embraced her and eased her to the floor. He kissed her ears, her throat, and her breasts. His warm mouth covered a nipple. As he sucked, electric delight surged through her body. She opened herself to him, and he took her hands in his and spread her arms wide as he entered her.
She should be praying for world fertility but, great Asherah, it was all she could do to keep her body temperature stable. A man in reality was better than a man in theory! She focused on the honey bee tattoo over his left clavicle. She found his rhythm and let her body go with it. Asherah, yes!
Nothing. Nothing in her training had prepared her for this. Her mind said keep control. Her body said let go. Let go. Don’t stop. Never stop. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and flowed with his movement. She wanted to moan, it felt so good – but Durga would hear of it, and Mal wouldn’t give her the satisfaction.
The thought of Durga helped her to maintain control.
Control over her voice, anyway. Edmund held her tighter and plunged deeper inside her. Heat and pleasure and delightful desperate urges coursed through her. The world disappeared, and the only thing that existed was the one being they made together. The edges of her soul were blending into his. She had to stop this.

2. What is your favorite book with some type of mythology in it?
I just answered this from the above question. The Goddess Test is really an amazing book! I read Daimon too and I think this one is really good :)

BOOKS FROM BLEH TO BASICALLY AMAZING

Books I recommend!

To be honest it's really HARD to recommend a book specially cause I have lots of favorites! I don't know if you have read this one I'm recommending but I have come to one book that I've read this past few weeks that until now I'm still obsessing myself with! The plot and characters is just pure bliss! I can totally say that I'm IN LOVE with this book and I recommend it to you!

Out of my Read-a-Thon pile I think I have 2 favorite this would be:
The Goddess Test and Return To Paradise.

If I have to really pick one out of my read-a-thon list this would be Return to Paradise by Simone Elkeles. I picked this because it's Simone Elkeles do you need more explanation? Lol I just looooooove Simone Elkeles I think I just need to finish the Ruined series and I've read all her books. Return to Paradise is the sequel of Leaving Paradise, the story happened when Caleb left Paradise leaving Maggie all alone. Leaving Paradise was really heart breaking for me as well as this one. I have high praises with this book, it has brought me into a whole different kind of emotions. Sometimes i'm pissed off with Caleb and then with Maggie which I find the writing really effective cause it actually affected me! The characters and the story is one of a kind, a story I can never forget. Because of this series I swore myself to praise Simone Elkeles at my Best Contemporary Author! it was a done deal the moment I started this book! it surpasses the previous book! The story is just beautiful, I can't explain more but I swear it's a must read! I can recommend this and brag about this to anybody! if your looking for a great contemporary read I suggest this one or any Simone Elkeles book. The way she writing just really captures my heart. All in all it was a fast and awesome read!

Wicked Awesome Books

Match Maker

Hmm this one is kind of hard... I think the books that I've read has the perfect other half so I don't think I can just match those characters from other books... but for the sake of this challenge i've think of some minor characters that kind of needs some attention... so here it goes...

I picked Georgia sister of Kate of Die For Me and Gale of The Hunger Games

Georgia seems to need a man who can protect her and to make her kind of... tame lol since she's a party girl. I think they compliment each other, Gale is a sweet guy and I think they won't have a hard time hooking up :)

[A Week Long Guest Post] Bad Boys vs. Good Boys

Welcome to A Week Long Guest Post
is a weekly spotlight hosted by We Fancy Books
today we have Hiba talking about Bad Boys vs. Good Boys!
Ok Hiba the floor is yours!

Bad Boys vs. Good Boys
by
Hiba Abdelqader of Wovenstrands

Will
We all deny it, but who doesn’t love a bad boy? Us females are so complex. We say we love the good boys and they are perfect for us, but when it comes down to it, we –almost-- always fall, face firs, for the bad boys.

Jem
What makes a bad boy so attractive? We as women are passionate, and we’re blessed with big hearts to help heal the broken, so we know bad boys are rebellious for a reason. They have a history, and we look past the behavior and look straight at the pain behind their actions.
Tessa (from the Infernal Devises by Cassandra Clare) falls for Will the broken, rude, and outspoken boy. While the sweet and loving Jem is left behind dying with a lonely heart. Even though we know so little about Will’s past from Clockwork Angel. You would think Tessa would be vulnerable towards Jem, but Will is a mystery; he is a puzzle for her to solve.

Jacob
Laurel (from the Wings series by Aprilynne Pike) is dating David. A strong confident boy any girl would love to be with. But when Tamani comes into the picture, she just can’t seem to keep her hands off of him. But when it comes down to choosing between David, the high school boy and Tamani, Avalon’s warrior who can’t cross his boundaries with Laurel since she is an upper-class fall fairy, we all know she will eventually be with Tamani, even though she chooses David now.

Edward
Other rare occasions where the good boy is chosen over the bad boy, is in the Twilight saga by Stephanie Meyer (you could disagree with me if you like). Bella chooses Edward, the confident and considerate boy/man over Jacob, the wild and emotional one. We all know she loved them both, who wouldn’t, but why choose Edward over Jacob? (Don’t get me wrong I love Edward and Jacob equally) Well, Edward has a little of a bad boy in him too, don’t you think? Basically, he’s the full package, the perfect combination of good and bad in one --Kudos to you Bella ;).
Boys in general, good or bad, we love them all, especially if they are in a YA Novel. For my younger ladies, don’t loose hope; they do exist past the boundaries of the books we love so much.
WovenStrands, 2011Ó

What can you say about these boys? Do you like Bad Boys or Good Boys? Who's your favorite Bad ass boy or Good boy? We would love to hear from you!

What I Finished

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins

Currently Reading

Divergent by Veronica Roth

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Synopsis:

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

What I Finished

Bleeder (Apocalypto #3) by L.K. Rigel

What I'm Reading

To Sir Phillip, With Love (Bridgerton Series, #5) by Julia Quinn

Synopsis from Goodreads

Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except . . . she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her . . . and more.

Did he think she was mad? Eloise Bridgerton couldn't marry a man she had never met! But then she started thinking . . . and wondering . . . and before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match. Except . . . he wasn't. Her perfect husband wouldn't be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was a large brute of a man, rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand. But when he smiled . . . and when he kissed her . . . the rest of the world simply fell away, and she couldn't help but wonder . . . could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

[Review] Ultraviolet by R.J. Anderson

Ultraviolet

by R.J. Anderson
Publication Date:
Expected Publication: Jun 2011
Hardcover, 416 pages
Publisher: Orchard

Once upon a time there was a girl who was special.

This is not her story.

Unless you count the part where I killed her.

Sixteen-year-old Alison has been sectioned in a mental institute for teens, having murdered the most perfect and popular girl at school. But the case is a mystery: no body has been found, and Alison's condition is proving difficult to diagnose. Alison herself can't explain what happened: one minute she was fighting with Tori -- the next she disintegrated. Into nothing. But that's impossible. Right?

-Goodreads

My thoughts?

I so love the book. I was so intrigued. I had no idea what this book was going to be all about honestly, well except the synopsis probably. But then again, I am so glad I just read it.

Well I did mention about not exactly knowing what this is all about, I thought this would just be another scary mind trick that might lead our protagonist into oblivion and proves that we’re just reading a guilty mind’s point of view. So at some point, due to the many crazy movies and books I’ve read that somehow made the protagonists actually the guilty ones, I can’t figure out what’s really to believe. This is such a book that would bring you to thinking.

There were moments in the first part when I think of just not reading the rest but it’s always going to be overruled by the thought of some bigger stuffs has yet to happen. Somehow, I was hopeful that I haven’t been to the most important thing yet. So I couldn’t really stop reading this. And then there comes the exciting part that made me so glad I continued reading.

It was crazy, well how charming to use such a word to such a novel that has been talking about things that involves the “fragile” mind in such a way that would show insanity as easy as it can be attained and as evident when being judged. What Alison had gone through scares me  and would probably drive me insane if I was ever on her shoes. I mean what Alison has is kind of amazing, I guess. I would have never thought that such ability exists. It might as well be an extraordinary power or something. But I wouldn’t really want to be anything like it. I could just imagine how much trouble and hardships she had gone through because of it.

I was actually reading this with the idea that this might not be only a science fiction book. I was thinking, or probably hoping more like it, that this was more of it. And of course it was. I obviously did not realize that this was a genre-bending paranormal young adult novel.

But at some point, when things got unraveled one by one, I had still my guard up. I feel like there’d still be more revelations that will happen. You’ll have that carved in your mind until the end of it. It was also beautifully written by R.J. Anderson. There were words said that made me appreciate… things. And how it ended, I feel like there should be a second book. I don’t know but somehow, even though the ending was “it”, I just wanted to find out more and read more about Faraday and his amazing purple eyes. Now that would probably be a spoiler and you hate it when stuffs get spoiled. But I felt like it was a cliffhanger of an ending.

I still love it. It’s a real must read.
