Top 10 Characters of 2011

Top 10 of 2011 is hosted by Jessica and Lisa, Jaime & Patricia from Two Chicks on Books and Rachel from Fiktshun. It is a week of looking back from the year that has been and looking forward for the next year. Today's Top 10 is Top 10 Characters in 2011.

Before we commence our little fantabulous fictitious fandom with our beloved young adult characters, I would like to say that I haven't been reading a lot since I'm busy with school and I know I know that it is not your problem anymore but anyway I'd still like to apologize if my list wouldn't exactly fit yours. But come on, we all have different opinions alright?

Enough with that! So I will be listing my Top 10 Characters that I've read from the books that was released in 2011. As if it wasn't obvious already. Let's do this in an ascending order. Are you ready? And by the way, the pictures might bother you but that's what I thought they would look like. Bare with me.

Top 10

CLARRISA FRAY from City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare
I like Clary because she's tough. And for the fact that she's just 5 feet tall that I could relate to her because I am just like her. Just thinking how awful she could've felt that time when she discovered she is a sister of the guy she loves, I really can't fathom. I'd probably cry my heart out and just be sad for the rest of my life. Okay it's exaggeration but I mean if we're talking about Jace Wayland here, then I guess that's what's going to happen.
And the way City of Fallen Angels ended, I don't know how horrible Clary must've felt after what happened to Jace. But since she's still going to fight for Jace, I have an all out support for her. I think he's worth fighting for, although I don't really get Jace's whole being evil thing. But let's go Clary! She's played by Lily Collins on the upcoming movie City of Bones.

Top 9

NICO DI ANGELO from The Son of Neptune (The Heroes of Olympus, #2) by Rick Riordan

Look at him! Just look at him! Doesn't he look dashing? Because the underworld dude just looks so beautiful to me. What with the dark eyes and messy black hair while wearing a silver skull ring and a shirt that has skull printed all over it. The dude is purely son of the darkness. And it's sexy? Ha. He's just a kid I know. But I can't help but get the feeling that when this young boy grows up, he would be gorgeous and he would be someone Hades would be proud of and would love to have as a son. And Nico is pretty brave too. Because of his love for his older sister, Bianca, he is not scared to go through any length just to have his sister back.

Yeah and now he's a captive of Gaea because he's too much of a bad ass. And that was a compliment by the way. And because of it, I'll be reading more of him in the next book, The Mark of Athena, since Percy had already decided to save Nico. The next book would be much awaited.

Top 8

ILIUM from Archangel's Blade (Guild Hunter Series, #4) by Nalini Singh
That picture was randomly taken from Google and I thought that it looked beautiful and dangerous at the same time so I was like hey that could be my Ilium. But anyway, Ilium isn't from a young adult book. Archangel's Blade is an urban fantasy of romantic adult about this vampire named Dmitri. So why am I featuring Ilium when he isn't really the main protagonist of the story? Well that's because Ilium shines the brightest. Okay so maybe it's just me. I don't know. But Ilium for me always stands out. Well Singh's claim of Ilium being the most beautiful angel there is in her wonderful world probably also helped in my opinion of him.

He might not have many appearances in the Archangel's Blade but I feel like I have already known Ilium ever since the series started. So yeah I love Ilium and his gorgeous self. I'm going to wait until Singh decides to write a whole book just for Ilium. Not that he isn't one of those on Singh's list. I even think like he  and Ashwini are going to end up with each other. And let me just die of jealousy.

Top 7

LORD RODOLFO GRECO from Cascade and Torrent (River of Time Trilogy, #2 and #3) by Lisa Tawn Bergren

He is a noble man. And very good looking too. A medieval knight in a very elegant and shining armor would want you to be taken away by an evil landlord if it meant being saved by this very noble knight. And really I'm kind of missing  him since the trilogy has already ended. But I've heard there's a tributary for the book. It'd be great to be able to read it.

And oh by the way, really good looking guy he is right? If you're curious, his name is Eduardo Verastegui. I believe he is Lord Greco but if I'm mistaken then please feel free to correct me.

Top 6

AMY from Across the Universe (Across the Universe Series, #1) by Beth Revis

Waking up almost dying from a long conscious slumber only to find out that your parents won't be waking up for the next 50 years and someone is roaming about to kill you is just downright horrifying. Amy thought she would wake up in a new thriving Earth with her parents but that didn't happen. Instead, she woke up in the spaceship called Godspeed. It would have been amazing really if the spaceship didn't have a scary dictator that controls the mind of all it's people. Creepy but it was kind of okay because Amy found friends with Harley and Elder, the next generation leader. But of course, Amy wasn't very trusting with Elder even when it is apparent that Elder was crushing on Amy.

My point is Amy has managed to take care of herself even when the whole leadership thing in the spaceship is corrupt which made me adore her because she's pretty strong even when she knows and feels alone in the whole new place.

And I think Emma Stone is kind of like Amy. She's got freckles and is a red head.

Top 5

ANNAH from The Dark and Hollow Places (The Forest of Hands and Teeth Trilogy, #3) by Carrie Ryan

The Dark and Hollow Places has been one of the best reads I had this year. It was awesome. And I really like the characters. But Annah has been the one that I really came to admire. She was left in the Dark City when she was very young by her brother Elias. But she managed to live and survive even when she was a girl. It was a very dangerous city indeed.

Annah had so many scars in her body. She had been through so many tough situations but she survived because she really wanted to live and wait for Elias when he gets back to her. But what really  caught me was the last part of the book when Annah jumped from the air balloon that she and her twin sister, Gabry and Elias were riding to escape from the bad men who were trying to use them as hostages against Catcher who was Gabry's childhood friend. Annah was then running for her life as the bad men pursued her and the zombies wanted to eat her. After so many days in the tunnel, the rest believed she had died and I did think she was going to die but she didn't. She survived and I am so glad that I read the trilogy. The kind of realization and excitement that I had while reading it cannot be exchanged by anything.

Top 4

GABRIELLA BETTARINI from Waterfall, Cascade and Torrent (River of Time Trilogy, #1, #2 and #3) by Lisa Tawn Bergren

From the first book to the end, Gabi has nothing but a bad ass. Lol. She's  not a She-Wolf of Sienna for no reason. This lady's experience has been one heck of a coaster ride. Men from Firenze wanted nothing but to have Lady Bettarini on their side but of course she would refuse because she would always be on Lord Marcello Forelli's side so the Firenze men wanted the lady dead. I mean Gabi is so stubborn. And she wasn't scared. She was never scared. She only knows one thing and that is to be with Marcello. Really I think it's admiring that Gabi chose to live in the dangerous dark age  just to be with someone she loves. Even when there are overlords who wanted to have her head.
Top 3

PERCY JACKSON from The Son of Neptune (The Heroes of Olympus, #2) by Rick Riordan

Logan Lerman. I love the dude. But most of all, I love Percy Jackson. I have seen the boy as he was growing up... Okay so maybe the more accurate thing to say is I have read how this boy has been trying to avoid being killed by the monsters who wanted nothing but to eat demigods. Ever since the series started, I've become a fan of Percy. And I personally think that he's on my top list of best characters of all time.

I thought I wasn't going to read new Percy Jackson adventure after the epic battle in The Last Olympian. But thank goodness Rick Riordan decided to write more of my favorite demigod. I couldn't wait until The Mark of Athena.

Top 2

WILLIAM HERONDALE from Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare

I believe that the best books out there are the ones with protagonists who acts like they are the devils by how they talk but are truly angelic and are very much lovable. Will Herondale could be Tessa's despicable shadowhunter but the rest of us knows that he is our guilty pleasure.

The way he talks and his humor makes you wish you were as witty  as he is because honestly it makes him hotter than he usually is. But apparently, according to Tessa, Will could be the most beautiful thing only if he doesn't open his mouth. But I think otherwise.

Seriously, who in their right mind would want to be sent to the demon realm? William is such a bad ass.

Top 1

Drum roll please...

JACE WAYLAND from City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare

You. Would. Know. Why. He. Is. On. Top. Of. The. List.

The wits and the sharp tongue runs in the Herondale blood. The looks too. Look at Jamie Campbell Bower, doesn't he look gorgeous? He is so fit yeah? Can't wait to watch him finally doing all those stuffs.

JCB for the win!

Yeah I know. So who are in your top ten list of characters that you've read this year? Please do share! (:

Top 10 Book Covers of 2011

Top 10 of 2011 is hosted by Jessica and Lisa, Jaime & Patricia from Two Chicks on Books and Rachel from Fiktshun. It is a week of looking back from the year that has been and looking forward for the next year. Today's Top 10 is Top 10 Book Covers in 2011.

Picking the Top 10 Book Covers of 2011 is really hard for me just for the fact that I don't want to be biased. I tried to pick the books that is not on my Top 10 Books I've Read in 2011, I mean I really tried but the love of the book also comes with Cover Love so I present you my Top 10 Book Cover of 2011.

The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa
Who could resist this cover? I was drooling over this when it was revealed. But I'll be honest, don't throw anything at me for this but... I'm Team Puck! that's why I'm delighted that this book has Puck on the back :) I haven't got a chance to read this book but I think everybody knows Megan is for Ash, just like I always say at least I have Puck all by myself or that's what I think lol
Wither by Lauren DeStefano
Wither is as BEAUTIFUL as it's cover! One of the best cover I've seen lately, I was starting at the cover for reals. The shade and hue of purple is just an amazing color and the cover model? what can I say is definitely beautiful. But I just want to stress that SHE DOES LOOK LIKE MANDY MOORE :) I really love this book from start to finish, though there are points where I don't want to read it anymore, haven't got a chance to review it because I might gush and say how I like and hate this book at the same time.
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
Ohh James! how beautiful you truly are! I can't hide how biased I am in including this cover but I just love all the covers of Cassie's books, ohh scratch that I didn't love CoFA's cover well maybe the least favorite among the covers. I just want to say that I NEED TO READ THIS BOOK NOW! My copy has been shipping around the country and dang I don't want to wait till next year! that's why I'm spoiling myself with the Audiobook! talk about Ed Westwick lol
Die for Me by Amy Plum
Another book that I'm really really biased about is this one, I definitely love Die for Me the story, the characters, the author, the writing ahh how I love and adore this book. I love Paris, it's my dream to visit Paris someday. Ok getting off topic, I love the cover no doubt about that, I love the swirling lines the cover model is just perfect for Kate, and the cover yes I definitely love Red and the Eiffel Tower, also love the blurb "Would you risk your life for love?" My love for this book is growing every minute.
A Long Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan
This is one book that mesmerized me by it's cover, it's just simple yet has a very dramatic feel. With just looking at the cover I just see beauty, just like the rose represents but with roses beauty comes with the thorns that makes it dangerous. I haven't read this book but heard good things about it, I don't know what the story is all about but I'll definitely pick this one up just because of the cover.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Shatter Me is just one book that I admire inside and out. The story is just an amazing read for me, I just can't get myself off this book after finishing it. Cover wise I definitely love it, but I think it didn't suit much on the story. I don't remember Juliette ever wearing a dress like that or I guess it was mentioned on the finished copy which I have not read. I think beyond that I can say that I love the cover, the slashed title, the blurb "MY TOUCH IS LETHAL MY TOUCH IS POWER" the background, need I to say more?
The Princess Curse by Merrie Haskell
My inner Middle Grade persona just came out when I picked this one. But I think it's no doubt that the cover is definitely beautiful? Who said not? If you do then I guess you can't please everybody as they say. I haven't got a chance to read this book but if I given a chance I'd definitely read it. The cover reminds me of little red riding hood or maybe not. I definitely love the cover art and the font.
The Demon Lover by Juliet Dark
I definitely love this cover, it reminds me of the cover of Die for Me but with a blueish hue instead. I haven't read this novel yet but I've heard no very good things about it that makes me slack off and not read it. But cover wise it's definitely awesome it's just that I wish that when a book has a good cover it best suits an awesome story.
Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber
I just started reading this book recently and I found myself into it. I love the story and definitely love the cover. I think the cover is a big giveaway when picking up this book. It shows in the cover that the girl is going through the painting, I think the book is intriguing specially the cover. The title I'm not very sure about it. But when it comes to cover love I definitely love this cover aside that I'm really enjoying the book.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Angel Burn by L.A Weatherly

Now please enjoy this exciting excerpt from Farsighted...

“Did Dad tell you? A new tenant moved into the old pharmacy next door.”

“Really?” I ask, not letting on I already know. If I feign ignorance, Mom’ll divulge all the details. “What is it?”

“It’s a psychic shop,” Her voice crackles with excitement like a fire that’s just beginning to burn. “The All-Seeing Miss Teak. Isn’t that cute? Miss Teak, Mystic. Ha, I wonder if that’s her real name.”

I laugh. “That is funny. Never had a psychic in town before. What’s she like?”

“Oh, she’s very friendly. Why don’t you go over and say ‘hi.’ I’m sure she’d like to meet you.”

“Okay, I think I will.” I’m incredibly intrigued, because first off, it’s a psychic shop—how weird is that?—and second, its presence made Dad super uncomfortable—also very cool. I waste no time heading next door to check out the scene.

As I step cautiously into the new shop, a recording of soft, instrumental music greets me. I can make out chimes and a string instrument I don’t recognize but for some reason reminds me of snake charmers. The smell of incense fills my nostrils, which explains the burning I detected earlier.

“Hello?” I call out into the otherwise quiet room.

Nobody answers. I walk in deeper, sweeping my cane out in front of me in a metronome fashion. This place is new to me, so I need to be especially careful while moving around.

Thump! Despite my precautions, I stub my toe on something hard, big, and made of wood. Just my luck to stub the same toe twice in one day. I reach down to press my fingers into my throbbing foot to alleviate some of the pain. Something teeters before rolling off of the chest and across the floor; the sound it makes indicates a curved path. Suddenly, the object stops. Somebody’s stopped it.

“Hello?” I call again.

“Hello,” a deep, feminine voice responds, placing more emphasis on the first syllable than the second.

“I- I’m sorry I knocked that thing over. I didn’t mean to…” I hope she’s not angry. Probably not a good idea to get on a psychic’s bad side.

“That wasn’t just a thing, it’s a crystal ball,” she says as she walks over, sending my blood pulsing through my veins. I sense her looking at me for a moment before she places the ball back on top of the chest.

“Can it see the future?” I ask, allowing my curiosity to outweigh my uneasiness.

“No.” After a pause lasting several beats, she continues. “But I can see the future sometimes when I look into it.”

“Oh, okay.” I tighten my hand around my cane and turn to leave. It may not be the most polite thing to do, but all of this hocus-pocus stuff is freaking me out more than I would’ve guessed.

The psychic lady speaks again, stopping me cold. “Don’t run away, Alex Kosmitoras.” She must’ve spoken to Mom earlier today. That must be how she knows my name.

“I’m not running away,” I say meekly. “I’m just going back over to Sweet Blossoms.”

“Don’t run away,” she repeats—this time she speaks louder and with more energy. “Don’t run away from your abilities. They are gifts.”

“What?” I ask in confusion. What abilities is she talking about?

“You already know. Watch. Listen. Be open to your gifts.”

I turn to face Miss Teak, but find she’s already gone, returning to wherever she was before I got there.

Is it safe to leave? I trail my fingers across the wooden box I ran into earlier; a thick coat of dust clings to the tips as I pull away. If this shop just opened, why is it already so dirty? I wipe my hands over my shirt to get the gritty substance off. Shivers rock my whole body. Something about this place is wrong, and I’m not sticking around to figure out what. Tapping my cane along the floor, I’m able to find the exit without knocking into anything else.

Ok before I start counting down my list I just want to say that it's been a hard decision picking just 10 books to list down, I've thought about it, contemplated about it but it's really hard. You may not agree with me with the books in the list but according to me they are an awesome read. So I made a little video over presentation over here mind watching? *I wanted to do a video blog but no thanks well maybe in time*

And according to my Goodread challenge I read 80 books this year! So it's a struggle to pick which book made it to the list.I can't imagine other people's list.
