Today is my Tour Stop for the Swipe Blog Tour hosted by YA Bound, I bring you today Evan Angler's Top Ten Book Picks!
Author's Top Ten (Evan Angler’s top ten book picks)
It’s too hard just to list my top ten--there are so many pre-Unity books that captured my imagination as a kid and stuck with me over the years. I loved the emotional punch of Katherine Paterson’s Bridge to Terabithia, the creativity of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, the wordplay of Douglas Adams’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the genre-defining sci-fi of Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles, the epic fantasy of C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia (particularly The Magician’s Nephew), and the rich themes of classics like William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, Lois Lowry’s The Giver, George Orwell’s 1984, and John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. Other particular young adult/middle grade favorites are Louis Sachar's Holes, Patricia C. Wrede's Dealing with Dragons, and Nancy Farmer's The Ear the Eye and the Arm. I wouldn’t feel right putting any of these books into a ranking--they are each so different from one another!--and I realize I haven’t quite narrowed them down to ten...but to this day I really feel you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Everyone gets the Mark. It gives all the benefits of citizenship. Yet if getting the Mark is such a good thing, then why does it feel so wrong?
Set in a future North America that is struggling to recover after famine and global war, Swipe follows the lives of three kids caught in the middle of a conflict they didn’t even know existed. United under a charismatic leader, every citizen of the American Union is required to get the Mark on their 13th birthday in order to gain the benefits of citizenship.
The Mark is a tattoo that must be swiped by special scanners for everything from employment to transportation to shopping. It’s almost Logan Langly’s 13th birthday and he knows he should be excited about getting the Mark, but he hasn’t been able to shake the feeling he’s being watched. Not since his sister went to get her Mark five years ago . . . and never came back.
When Logan and his friends discover the truth behind the Mark, will they ever be able to go back to being normal teenagers? Find out in the first book of this exciting series that is Left Behind meets Matched for middle-grade readers.
About the Author
Evan Angler is safe, for now. He lives without the Mark, evading DOME and writing in the shadows of Beacon.
As a kid he was quiet and well-behaved, having grown up in a town not unlike Spokie, where he enjoyed music, drawing, hover-dodge, astrophysics, hiking, virtual reality . . .
None of that matters now.
Evan Angler is the author of SWIPE. But if anyone asks, you know nothing about it, and you didn't hear anything from him. Don't make eye contact if you see him. Don't call his name out loud. He's in enough trouble already.
And so are you, if you've read his books.
