Couldn't put this one down! An absolutely fantastic story. Already itching to get my hands on Book 2! - Patricia Riley

Elemental is a wonderful story--an original and haunting tale filled with deeper meaning that resonated in my heart. I'm looking forward to reading more books from Emily White. - Kate Kaynak

I can honestly say I've never read anything quite like Elemental. My hat is off to Ms. White, and anyone else who can take a novel set squarely in the sci-fi genre, throw in fairies and a few obscure King Arthur references, and make it all work.- Keshia Swaim at The Book Addict

About the Author

Emily White lives in NY, wedged between two of the Great Lakes and a few feet of snow and ice. She's spent most of her life running away from the cold, and even spent a year in Iraq, but now contents herself with writing her characters into warm, exotic places in faraway galaxies. When not tapping away at her computer keys, she can be found reading, reading, and reading some more. And when she's not doing that, she's usually playing video games with her husband, peek-a-boo with her kids, or walking through her garden, wondering why the bugs insist on eating all her vegetables.

Summary
Strangers in reality, inseparable in dreams…

After years of suffocating under her boss’s scrutiny, whale biologist Zoe Morgan finally lands a job as director of a tagging project in Hervey Bay, Australia. Success Down Under all but guarantees her the promotion of a lifetime, and Zoe won’t let anything—or anyone—stand in her way. Not the whale voices she suddenly hears in her head, not the ex who won’t take no for an answer, and especially not the gorgeous figment of her imagination who keeps saving her from the fiery hell of her dreams.

Gavin Cassidy hasn’t been called to help a human Wyldling in over a year, which is fine by him. Still blaming himself for the death of his partner, he keeps the guilt at bay by indulging in every excess his rock star persona affords. That is, until he’s summoned to protect Zoe from hungry Fyre Elementals and learns his new charge is the key to restoring order in the dying Dreaming. He never expects to fall for the feisty Dr. Morgan…nor does he realize he may have to sacrifice the woman he loves to save an entire country.

Kendall encourages interested readers to consider purchasing an e-book instead of a paperback. E-books save trees, cost considerably less, and bring in much more money for the whales.

Starred Review

As the first book of the Just Breathe trilogy, Inhale proves to be an urban fantasy book not to be missed! I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started reading Inhale. All I knew was that the story had whales, a rock star and takes place in Australia. Cool! I love each of those things separately, let's see how it all comes together. - GraceDZ

I absolutely love the premise for this book.
A new and exciting race of paranormals that embody the elements and enter the dreams of humans.
It is a story and genre that is right up my alley
- Book Chatter - Cath

Inhale is a beautiful story about love and fate wrapped up in dreams come true and topped off with a hot bow of luvst (that fun stage between lust and love) to tie it all together.- Cate

It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life. But if controlling what people eat, where they live and how many children they have is the price of having it all, Adelice isn’t interested.

Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and wove a moment at testing, and they’re coming for her—tonight.

Now she has one hour to eat her mom’s overcooked pot roast. One hour to listen to her sister’s academy gossip and laugh at her Dad’s stupid jokes. One hour to pretend everything’s okay. And one hour to escape.

Because once you become a Spinster, there’s no turning back.

[Book Blast] Pretty Crooked by Elisa Ludwig + G!veaway

Pretty Crooked
by Elisa Ludwig
Published: March 13, 2012
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books

Summary
Willa’s secret plan seems all too simple: take from the rich kids at Valley Prep and give to the poor ones.

Yet Willa’s turn as Robin Hood at her ultra-exclusive high school is anything but. Bilking her “friends”-known to everyone as the Glitterati-without them suspecting a thing, is far from easy. Learning how to pick pockets and break into lockers is as difficult as she’d thought it’d be. Delivering care packages to the scholarship girls, who are ostracized just for being from the “wrong” side of town, is way more fun than she’d expected.

The complication Willa didn’t expect, though, is Aidan Murphy, Valley Prep’s most notorious (and gorgeous) ace-degenerate. His mere existence is distracting Willa from what matters most to her-evening the social playing field between the have and have-nots. There’s no time for crushes and flirting with boys, especially conceited and obnoxious trust-funders like Aidan.

But when the cops start investigating the string of burglaries at Valley Prep and the Glitterati begin to seek revenge, could he wind up being the person that Willa trusts most?

Excerpt

Nin knew how much humans loved money, riches, and material things — though he never really could understand why. The more technologically advanced the human species got, the more isolated they seemed to become, at the same time. It was alarming, how humans could spend entire lifetimes engaged in all kinds of activities, without getting any closer to knowing who they really were, inside.

Starred Review

This book has elves, technology, sneaky thieves, and saving the world. I loved the way the author approached elves in an urban fantasy environment, and the technology she dreamed up was amazing! It was realistic (I could see some of their invention coming into fruition in the next couple years) but still way cool :) - Serena

Jess C. Scott is a smart, detail-oriented writer with a great grasp of cyberpunk style. She has created a distinct world here, with a unique vision of elves and a wry look at the future of corporations, and both Nin and Anya are rounded, complex characters whose developing relationship makes sense. You root for them to overcome their threats and come out on top. I won't tell you what happens, but this is book one, and I'll be quick to get hold of book 2 when the time comes. - Matt Posner

A mix of fantasy and science fiction (using "old" terms), The Other Side of Life is in "new" sub-genres as well: cyperpunk and urban fantasy, both types which are sweeping through fiction like wildfire these days. - Red Haircrow

About the Author

Jess is an author/artist/non-conformist who's dedicated to writing original stories that are both meaningful and entertaining. She focuses on substance over short-term success with current fads and marketing hype.

[Guest Post] How To Be A Better Writer by Jolene Perry

How to be a better writer - Jolene's version.

1. Don't take yourself too seriously.
2. Be ready for criticism - to dish it, to take it, and to use it.
3. Find your voice - play around with tenses and genres, until you find a place where writing comes easiest - you can push yourself later.
4. Take time away from your project, and not just away from it, but to the point where you're obsessively thinking about another project before you go back.
5. Never be afraid to ask for help.
6. At least CONSIDER comments that other people make about your writing.
7. Trust yourself, and after weighing comments, do what feels best to you and to your story.
8. Know that getting published is so much of the right person reading your manuscript at the right time.
9. There are plenty of amazing books that take forever to get published, and also plenty of terrible books that make it to hardback. Don't let yourself worry about this. Write your story the best way YOU know how.
10. Read. Read. Read. Read. Read in your genre. Find the things you love, the things you don't like so much. Read authors whose voices are similar to your own. Read people who write completely differently from you.
11. Remember that just being able to write is a big deal. It should be FUN :-D

And THAT'S what I have to remind myself often to be a better writer!

Thanks SO much for turning your blog over to me for a day!

~ Jolene

Review

Wow. Who knew that zombie-smashing in the Wild Wild West could be one of the possible components in creating a very good book? I never thought that this one would trap me in a manner like I was sucked away from reality of reading a novel and was replaced of a feeling that I was watching a movie.

The author did a very brilliant job on the storyline of the novel;fast-paced, unexpected, and there was thrill in every word. She did not only create the characters but she put them to life and made their emotions and actions seem real in every situation she put them through.

From the very first pages where the missy protagonist, Elisabeth, brought up the scenes, I was already enthralled. Her character alone was one of the factors that made me want to read the book more; the way she’d gone through fighting off her family who were contaminated with thedeadly virus on the first few pages and how she walked in a bar with her flaring red hair and agun in hand, shooting out zombies like a pro; a real tough chic I say!And that’s what captured hot hot Trace, ayoung cowboy with aplayful character and good instincts in playing with his cards. With his own motives, he follows down Miss One-Man-Show, and tries to be her sidekick amidst her obvious passion of dislike towards the cocky cowboy. Somehow, with the story’s exciting twists and turns, together they learn to trust each other and undergo a struggle of slashing off undead deads. But when secrets are unraveled, will they able to keep their feeling for each other alive?

"Elisabeth, I'm not going anywhere. Not without you. Shoot me in both legs if you must, but I'm telling you right now, I'll find a way to crawl after you."

Now set your typical stuck-in-a-love-triangle-high-schoolers-who-shoots-stuffs- out-of –their-hands books aside, and get this one escalated on yourto-be-read list! giddiYEP!

I got this book in participation of the Blog Tour and has no way affected my review of the book.

About the Author

I hear voices. Tiny fictional people sit on my shoulders and whisper their stories in my ear. Instead of medicating myself, I decided to pick up a pen, write down everything those voices tell me, and turn it into a book. I’m not crazy. I’m an author.

For the most part, I write contemporary Young Adult novels. However, through a writing exercise that spiraled out of control, I found myself writing about zombies terrorizing the Wild Wild West—and loving it. My zombies don’t sparkle, and they definitely don’t cuddle. At least, I wouldn’t suggest it.

I live on the benches of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with two lovely children, one teenager, and a very patient husband. I graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree in English, not because of my love for the written word, but because it was the only major that didn’t require math. I can’t spell, and grammar is my arch nemesis. Bufont-family: 'Great Vibes',cursive; font-size: 34px;t they gave me the degree, and there are no take backs.

As a child, I never sucked on a pacifier; I chewed on a pencil. I’ve been writing that long. It has only been the past few years that I’ve pursued it professionally, forged relationships with other like-minded individuals, and determined to make a career out of it.
