Synopsis:
Thirteenth daughter. Heritage witch. Demon slayer.

They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn’t even begin to describe Whispering Pines. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch’s curse…

Sixteen-year-old Shiloh Ravenwolf is a heritage witch from the Broussard family, a family both destined and cursed. After she takes a summer job at Ravenhurst Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan. But Trent may be the next victim on the supernatural hit list, and Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him.

Complicated much?

After receiving cryptic messages from a creepy wraith, and then frightening threats from a demon, Shiloh finally begins to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist. Now Shiloh must decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.

Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance.

"EERIE. INSIDIOUS."

Goosebumps all over! I thought this book failed me the 'scary' part because at first I really didn't feel anything. But I was wrong!!! This book is really creepy!

Shiloh came from a family of witches, a descendant of one of the founding families of Whispering Pines. At her age she still couldn't grasp the whole of it, and there was no one to explain it to her, only the journals her aunt gave her during one of her birthdays. Having the prophecy of breaking down the curse, I think it would really be hard for a person to face all those supernatural challenges when you don't have the family support system but Shiloh got through them all and that's thanks to her friends and her tutor. She may not be brave enough at first but she has this courage of overcoming all the hurdles.

Ravenhurst Manor. I can't help think if the movie 'Insidious' every time I imagine this house! Downright scary! Personally though, I'd like to sleep for a night or two in that house, not alone of course (I might die!) but with friends ... You know, just to see if I could also feel it but the mere thought of ajar doors and the sound of a door opening slowly gives me the creeps... Yes, the house is that haunted!

Trent Donovan comes back after disappearing with his dad when his mother died. A lot of stories circled around the town and a lot of them says the house is cursed. Yes, they own and they live in Ravenhurst. Trent is a package of all sorts of characters: sweet, geeky, cool, mysterious, and really really moody. He is so hard to read. You know something deep is bogging this person, aside from his family and their house of course, but you just couldn't figure it out. He'd come around then disappear for a week or two, then make an appearance again. I love how the author gave some hints but will still leave you clueless or still wondering. He is in denial of the things happening in front of him. I even think this good looking guy did not do enough to deserve Shiloh or is he just too careful enough to put a wall in between him and everyone else to spare him the heartbreaks? Very cryptic.

This books is very unpredictable, that means the plots are unique. I love how you could easily understand what the situation is trying to convey, or a description of a picture. In totality, this book is awesomesauce!!! The book ended with so many questions left unanswered and I cannot wait for the next one!
